The performance of retail sector stocks throughout 2018 was quite diverse. Of the eight retail issuers below, four stocks saw increases and the remaining four declined. Decreased consumer spending, coupled with a slowing domestic economy and the rise of online shopping, forced some retail companies to close stores due to low customer traffic.
Based on Indonesia Stock Exchange data, the share price of PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk throughout 2018 (period December 29, 2017 - March 5, 2018) recorded a 16.13% increase to Rp 6,200 per share. This increase was the largest compared to other retail stocks. In second place, PT Matahari Department Store Tbk (LPPF) shares also strengthened by 10% to Rp 10,000 per share, and in third place, PT Supra Boga Lestari Tbk (RANC) rose by 5.45% to Rp 330 per share.
Meanwhile, retail sector stocks that experienced declines were PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk (AMRT) by 4.92%. This was followed by PT Matahari Putra Prima Tbk (MPPA) which corrected by 3.54%, then PT Hero Supermarket Tbk (HERO) by 2.7%, and PT Midi Utama Indonesia Tbk (MIDI) by 2.38%.
