Mangosteen: Indonesia's Star Export Fruit

Mangosteen is Indonesia's largest foreign exchange-earning fruit. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), in its Statistics of Fruit and Vegetable Plants, recorded mangosteen exports in 2015 reaching US$17.2 million. The main export destinations for this fruit are Thailand, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.

Mangosteen is known as the "queen of fruits" and has many benefits. This fruit, with the Latin name *Garcinia mangostana L.*, can treat and prevent various chronic diseases. Both the fruit and the peel contain a high amount of xanthones, one of the most beneficial antioxidants in the world.

Other fruits widely exported by Indonesia include processed bananas, known as plantains. This category includes types such as horn bananas and kepok bananas. Exports of this type of banana reached US$12 million. Furthermore, mangoes and salak (snake fruit) were also widely exported, reaching US$1.8 million and US$1.6 million respectively.
