Indonesia recorded US$10.41 billion in exports to India as of December 2020. This figure represents a significant 11.92% decrease compared to the previous year's exports of US$11.82 billion.
Indonesia's trade record with India shows a drastic reduction in exports over the past 10 years. The lowest export value was US$10.09 billion, while the highest reached US$14.08 billion.
Of the 97 products (two-digit HS codes) exported to India, 40 products were worth over one billion dollars. Furthermore, according to Trademap data, four main Indonesian products are exported to India annually. This indicates a considerable dependence on these export products. The majority of other exported products, totaling 80 products, are also exported to numerous other countries.
The following is a list of the top five Indonesian products exported to India, ordered by value from highest to lowest:
1. Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation
Falling under HS code 27, this group includes mineral fuels, mineral oils, products of their distillation, bituminous substances and mineral waxes. Exports of these products to India ranked first, totaling US$3.66 billion. This is lower than the previous period's US$5.02 billion.
2. Vegetable oils and fats and their cleavage products
Falling under HS code 15, this group includes edible fats and animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products. Indonesia exported US$3.06 billion worth of these products.
3. Other Chemical Products
Indonesia exported these products to 143 countries. Exports to India ranked fourth, totaling US$335.19 million in 2020. Other major export destinations for these products include China, the Netherlands, Malaysia, and the United States.
4. Iron and steel
Classified under HS code 72 in Trademap, Indonesia exported US$312.76 million worth of iron and steel. Trademap data shows that Indonesia exports iron and steel to 73 countries. Exports to India ranked fifth. Other major export destinations include China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Malaysia.
5. Ores, slag and ash
Indonesia exported US$289.9 million worth of ores, slag, and ash to India, ranking fourth among export destinations. This represents an increase compared to the previous period's US$90.018 million. Other major export destinations include China, Japan, South Korea, and Germany. Indonesia exported these products to 20 countries in total.
