Trade between the ten Southeast Asian nations (Association of South East Asian Nations/ASEAN) and the United States (US) reached US$364.45 billion in 2021.
Details show ASEAN exports to the US reached US$255.12 billion, while ASEAN imports from the US totaled US$109.34 billion. Therefore, the trade balance between the ten ASEAN countries and the United States recorded a surplus of US$145.78 billion throughout last year.
Vietnam recorded the largest surplus in trade with the US, reaching US$81.1 billion. This comprised exports of US$96.27 billion, while imports from the US were only US$15.17 billion.
The next ASEAN member state with the largest surplus was Thailand, at US$27.25 billion. This was followed by Malaysia with a trade surplus with the US of US$16.25 billion.
Indonesia recorded a trade surplus with the US of US$14.53 billion. Exports reached US$25 billion, while imports totaled US$11.25 billion.
Cambodia also recorded a trade surplus with the US of US$7.07 billion. The Philippines recorded a trade surplus with the US of US$1.79 billion, and Myanmar recorded a trade surplus with the US of US$388.68 million.
Singapore, however, recorded a trade deficit with the US of US$2.19 billion. Exports to the US totaled US$38.24 billion, while imports reached US$40.43 billion.
Other ASEAN countries recording trade deficits with the US were Brunei Darussalam at US$211.99 million and Laos at US$198.6 million.
