Coal Consumption by Industry Over the Past Four Years

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has recorded the volume of coal usage by several industries during 2019-2022.

This realization calculation is included in a copy of the ESDM Minister's Decree Number 301.K/MB.01/MEM.B/2022 concerning the National Mineral and Coal Management Plan 2022-2027.

The largest realization was for use in the electricity industry or coal-fired power plants (PLTU). The highest volume from this industry was in 2021, reaching 112.13 million tons. In 2020, it reached 104.83 million tons.

Significantly lower in second place is the smelting or metallurgy industry (smelter). The highest volume of coal usage was recorded in July 2022, reaching 18.13 million tons. The second highest was in 2020, reaching 13.21 million tons.

Another industry that utilized the most coal is cement. The highest usage was in 2020, reaching 5.86 million tons, and in 2021, reaching 4.45 million tons.

Meanwhile, the industry that used the least coal was briquettes, with 0.01 million tons in 2019 and 0.05 million tons in 2020. The ESDM Ministry has not yet obtained data for 2021 and 2022 for this industry.
