Indonesia's Exports and Imports Decline in January 2022

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that Indonesia's export and import performance in January 2022 decreased compared to the previous month. Indonesia's import value was recorded at US$18.2 billion in January 2022, a 14.62% decrease from the previous month's US$21.4 billion.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's export value was US$19.2 billion, down 14.29% from the previous month's US$22.4 billion. However, both Indonesian exports and imports were higher than in the same period of the previous year.

Indonesia's exports increased by 25.31% compared to January 2021. Imports increased by 36.77% over the same period the previous year.

Because the value of exports was higher than imports, Indonesia recorded a trade surplus. Indonesia's trade surplus in January 2022 was US$932.9 million.

However, Indonesia's trade surplus decreased by 52.5% compared to the same period in the previous year. Indonesia's trade surplus in January 2021 was recorded at US$1.96 billion.

A decrease was also observed compared to the previous month. Indonesia's trade surplus decreased by 7.41% compared to December 2021, which stood at US$1 billion.
