These 10 Countries Are Indonesia's Largest Coffee Import Suppliers

Coffee is becoming an increasingly popular commodity among Indonesian consumers. Vietnam is Indonesia's largest coffee supplier. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), imports of coffee and its derivative products from Vietnam totaled 7.45 million kg.

The value of coffee imports from Vietnam reached US$ 11.86 million, or Rp 389 billion (at an exchange rate of Rp 14,288/US$) during the January-September 2021 period. This value decreased by 0.22% compared to the same period the previous year (year to date/ytd).

The next largest coffee import origins were Brazil, reaching US$ 8.98 million; followed by Malaysia at US$ 2.17 million; Switzerland at US$ 1.32 million; and the United States at US$ 729,640.

There were also imports of coffee and its derivative products from East Timor valued at US$ 469,700; Italy at US$ 454,240; Colombia at US$ 193,240; and China and Ethiopia at US$ 169,450 and US$ 167,700 respectively.

The total volume of coffee and its derivative product imports into Indonesia decreased by 0.17% to 12.35 million kg in the first nine months of 2021. Similarly, the total value decreased by 0.18% to US$ 27.22 million.

Indonesia's coffee imports from abroad have decreased due to the ongoing community activity restrictions implemented to curb the spread of the coronavirus. However, Indonesian culinary businesses serving coffee drinks remain active.
