Superindo, owned by PT Lion Superindo, is the largest grocery retailer in Indonesia by number of outlets. This grocery retailer, targeting the middle class market, had 186 outlets in 2021.
Next is Transmart, with the second-highest number of grocery retail outlets in the country. This grocery retail network, owned by CT Group, had 141 outlets in 2021.
Giant ranked third with 100 outlets. However, all of these outlets closed on August 1, 2021, due to a policy from its parent company, PT Hero Supermarket.
Hypermart is ranked fourth. This grocery retail network, owned by Lippo Group, had 98 outlets in 2021.
Following that, the South Korean retail network, Lotte Mart, is ranked fifth. Lotte Mart had 49 outlets in Indonesia in 2021.
In 2020, Indonesian grocery retail sales reached US$97 billion. This made it the fourth largest in the Asia-Pacific region and the largest in Southeast Asia.
