China Remains Indonesia's Top Non-Oil and Gas Importer in September 2022

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's non-oil and gas imports reached US$16.38 billion in September 2022. This figure decreased by 11.21% month-on-month (mom), but increased by 14.02% year-on-year (yoy).

In September 2022, Indonesia imported the most non-oil and gas commodities from China, amounting to US$5.69 billion, or 34.74% of the total national non-oil and gas imports.

However, the value of non-oil and gas imports from China decreased by 13.44% (mom), or US$883 million, compared to August 2022.

"The decrease in imports from China specifically involves machinery and electrical equipment, iron and steel, and mechanical machinery and equipment," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics, Setianto, in a press conference on Monday (17/10/2022).

Next, Indonesia imported the most non-oil and gas commodities from Japan, amounting to US$1.3 billion in September 2022. This is equivalent to 7.93% of the total national non-oil and gas imports.

Furthermore, the value of non-oil and gas imports from Australia was US$910 million (5.53%), the United States US$860 million (5.23%), Singapore US$840 million (5.14%), and Thailand (5.11%).

Based on the commodity category, the largest decrease in non-oil and gas imports in September 2022 occurred in iron and steel commodities, which decreased by 25.57% (mom) or US$342.2 million compared to August 2022.

Meanwhile, the value of imports of machinery/electrical equipment and parts decreased by US$293.2 million or 11.45% (mom), and imports of mechanical machinery/equipment and parts decreased by US$197.9 million or 6.65% (mom).

The value of plastic and plastic goods imports also decreased by US$167.5 million or 16.72% (mom), and imports of organic chemicals decreased by US$152.9 million or 23.09% (mom).
