92.06% of National Exports are Transported by Sea

Based on a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's export value in 2020 reached US$163.2 billion, a decrease of 2.68% compared to the previous year's US$167.7 billion. Sea transport was the most widely used mode of transportation for exports.

Total Indonesian export value using sea transport reached US$150.2 billion, or 92.06% of total national exports in 2020. The weight of exports transported by sea reached 573.4 million tons.

Air transport ranked second, with an export value of US$11.06 billion, or 6.78% of total national exports. The weight of exports transported by air amounted to 123,200 tons.

The next modes of transport were pipelines, land, and post, with values of US$1.78 billion (1.10%), US$54.4 million (0.03%), and US$49.9 million (0.03%), respectively. The weight of exports for these three modes of transport was 6,040 tons, 92,700 tons, and 1,100 tons, respectively.

For information, non-oil and gas export commodities contributed the largest share to total national exports at 94.94%, while oil and gas exports accounted for 5.06%. The value of national non-oil and gas exports reached US$154.9 billion in 2020.
