Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), several goods were the most imported into Indonesia throughout 2024.
Based on the 1-digit Standard International Trade Classification (SITC) commodity group, the largest share was dominated by machinery and transport equipment, amounting to US$72.77 billion last year. This value contributed 31.15% to Indonesia's total imports.
BPS explained that the import value increased by US$1.26 billion (1.78%) compared to the same period the previous year.
Next, there is the mineral oil and fuel group at US$40.66 billion (17.40%); manufactured goods at US$33.92 billion (14.52%), chemicals and their products at US$30.15 billion (12.90%), and food and live animals at US$24.27 billion (10.39%).
In addition, raw materials and mining products, as well as vegetable and animal oils, are included in the top 8. Other goods totaled US$18.2 billion.
In BPS calculations, compared to the January-December 2023 import value, the significant percentage increase came from the vegetable and animal oil group at 32.93%; beverages and tobacco at 26.01%; and raw materials and mining products at 15.64%.
In total, the combined import value of oil and gas and non-oil and gas reached Rp233.65 billion throughout 2024. The proportion of their contribution was 15.52% for oil and gas and 84.48% for non-oil and gas.
