The US-China trade war is heating up. US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are engaged in a tit-for-tat tariff battle.
According to UN Comtrade data processed by Trading Economics, several goods were among the most expensive imported by the United States from China in 2024.
The highest value was for electrical and electronic equipment, imported at US$127.06 billion throughout last year.
This was followed by machinery, nuclear reactors, and boilers, at US$85.13 billion. Next were toys, games, and sporting goods, totaling US$32.04 billion.
The US also imported plastics from China worth US$21.53 billion. Below that were imports of furniture, lighting, and prefabricated buildings, totaling US$20.94 billion.
Iron goods, optical equipment, and ready-made clothing also feature in the top 10.
Trading Economics also recorded total imports from China reaching US$462.62 billion throughout 2024.

Meanwhile, according to the website of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), US imports specifically of goods from China in 2024 reached US$438.9 billion, up 2.8% (US$12.1 billion) from 2023. The US goods trade deficit with China reached US$295.4 billion in 2024, up 5.8% (US$16.3 billion) from 2023.
The USTR calculated that US goods exports to China in 2024 amounted to US$143.5 billion, down 2.9% (US$4.2 billion) from 2023. Total US goods trade with China is estimated to have reached US$582.4 billion in 2024.

9. Commodities not specified according to kind: US$11.61 billion
10. Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted: US$10.63 billion.
