How Confident Are Citizens That Elected Regional Heads Can Keep Their Promises?

President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated 961 regional heads from the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (20/2/2025).

The inaugurated regional heads comprised 33 governors, 33 deputy governors, 363 regents, 362 deputy regents, 85 mayors, and 85 deputy mayors.

Regarding this information, a Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) poll found that only 55.9% of respondents were confident that regional heads in their areas would fulfill their campaign promises.

This proportion comprised 6.5% of respondents who answered "very confident" and 49.4% who answered "confident." Litbang Kompas considers this figure relatively low.

"This serves as a strong warning for regional governments to genuinely implement the programs campaigned during the regional elections," wrote a Litbang Kompas researcher in their report on Thursday (20/2/2025).

Litbang Kompas assesses that this low public confidence indicates skepticism towards the fulfillment of campaign promises by the government. Campaign promises are, however, a strong indicator for voters in making their choices.

Meanwhile, 42.2% of respondents said they were not confident that the regional heads could fulfill their campaign promises. This comprised 38.5% of respondents who answered "not confident" and 3.7% who answered "very not confident."

This Litbang Kompas survey involved 529 respondents from 38 provinces, randomly selected from the Litbang Kompas panel, in accordance with the population proportion in each province.

Data collection was conducted from February 10-13, 2025, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.22% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
