Israel is not Indonesia's main trading partner. However, Indonesia imports goods from Israel worth tens of millions of dollars annually.
Throughout 2022, Indonesia's total imports from Israel reached USD 47.8 million, an increase of approximately 80% year-on-year (YoY).
According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the main import commodities from Israel in 2022 were heating and cooling equipment, such as air conditioners (ACs), heat pumps, geothermal pumps, and others.
Indonesia also imports a significant amount of television signal receivers, hand tools or machinery, electrical circuit equipment, and printing and binding machinery, as shown in the graph.
In addition to imports, Indonesia regularly exports goods to Israel every year. In 2022, the main export commodity to Israel was palm oil.
Despite active export-import activities, Indonesia refuses diplomatic relations with Israel. This stance is enshrined in Chapter X of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Regulation Number 3 of 2019, which states:
"To date, Indonesia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, and opposes Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory and people; therefore, Indonesia rejects all forms of official relations with Israel."
The regulation stipulates that the Indonesian government must observe several procedures when dealing with Israel, namely:
* There are no official relations between the Indonesian government at any level with Israel, including correspondence using official letterheads;
* No official reception of Israeli delegations at official venues;
* The raising/use of the flag, emblem, and other attributes, as well as the playing of the Israeli national anthem, is not permitted in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia;
* The presence of Israelis does not imply political recognition of Israel;
* Visits by Israeli citizens to Indonesia can only be made using ordinary passports; and
* Visa issuance authorization for Israeli citizens is carried out by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, namely the Directorate General of Immigration. Visas are issued in the form of an affidavit through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore or the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Bangkok.
