North Sumatra Province recorded a total export volume of 773,570 tons in December 2024. However, exports of non-ferrous metals (SITC code 68 – Standard International Trade Classification) from the province decreased to 1.98 million tons in December 2024.
This decline in export value contributed to a decrease in foreign exchange reserves and the total export value, which had previously been on an upward trend for the past five months. According to Bank Indonesia (BI) records, exports from the province in the same period the previous year were recorded at 6.12 million tons.
Sumatera Utara's customs import documents recorded 22 export commodity groups. These commodities are grouped into 2-digit SITC codes. The commodity group with the highest export volume was SITC code 42, vegetable oils and fats.
Over the past 15 months, the highest export volume from North Sumatra was recorded in November 2024 at 16.53 million tons, while the lowest was in April 2024 at 812,560 tons.
