The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that three Indonesian provinces made significant contributions to national export value during the January-July 2016 period. These provinces were East Java, with a proportion of 18.7 percent and a value of US$10.8 billion; East Kalimantan, with a proportion of 13.2 percent (US$7.6 billion); and Riau, with a proportion of 12 percent (US$7.2 billion).
East Java's exports were dominated by jewelry/precious stones, with July exports reaching US$197 million, followed by organic chemicals, fats, fish, shrimp, and paper/cardboard. However, in July, the value of transactions for this main commodity, precious metal jewelry, fell by 62.15 percent compared to the previous period. The main export destinations for East Java's non-oil and gas products included Japan, the United States, and Switzerland.
East Kalimantan's exports were dominated by oil and gas products, organic chemicals, and fertilizers, including several groups of goods such as natural pearls, precious stones, and imitation jewelry. The main export destinations for this province included Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore.
