The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's exports in May 2018 grew by 10.9% month-on-month and by 12.47% year-on-year (compared to May 2017), reaching US$ 16.12 billion. Cumulatively, from January to May 2018, export value reached US$ 74.93 billion, a 9.65% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
Meanwhile, the value of imports in May 2018 increased by 9.17% month-on-month and by 28.12% year-on-year, reaching US$ 17.64 billion. Cumulatively, the value of imports from January to May 2018 grew by 24.75% to US$ 77.77 billion compared to the same period last year. In the last month, the value of imports exceeded exports, resulting in a trade deficit of US$ 2.83 billion for Indonesia by the end of May.
For oil and gas exports, May 2018 saw a 28.8% month-on-month increase and a 21.47% year-on-year increase, reaching US$ 1.57 billion. Non-oil and gas exports increased by only 9.25% month-on-month and by 11.58% year-on-year, reaching US$ 14.55 billion. Oil and gas imports in May 2018 grew by 20.95% month-on-month and by 57.17% year-on-year, reaching US$ 2.82 billion. Non-oil and gas imports in May 2018 increased by only 7.19% month-on-month and by 23.77% year-on-year, reaching US$ 14.83 billion.
