New York-based travel media, *Travel and Leisure* (T+L), has just released its list of the best islands in the world for 2023. This list is based on a survey of approximately 165,000 of their readers.
T+L readers were asked to rate world destination islands based on several criteria, including the appeal of natural attractions or beaches, the activities offered, and the quality of restaurants or food.
Respondents could give a rating of "excellent," "good," "average," "below average," or "poor." The final score was then calculated from the average of the ratings given by the respondents.
As a result, one Indonesian island, Bali, made the list of the world's best islands with a score of 94.40 points.
"Bali is known for its world-class resorts, luxurious spas, and wellness retreats. The island has strong spiritual and traditional roots, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Balinese culture," said the T+L editorial team in their release on Tuesday (11/7/2023).
However, in this survey, Bali was surpassed by the Great Barrier Reef, which received a score of 96.11 points, and the Maldives, which scored 95.68 points.
The Great Barrier Reef is a UNESCO World Heritage site located northeast of Australia. It is considered the largest coral reef habitat in the world.
Meanwhile, the Maldives is known for its luxurious overwater accommodations and offers isolated retreats for its visitors.
