Foreign Tourist Visits to Indonesia Decreased in September 2025

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported 1.39 million foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in September 2025.

This number decreased by 7.33% month-to-month (mtm). However, year-on-year (yoy), the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia increased by 9.04% compared to September 2024.

The majority of foreign tourists in September 2025 entered Indonesia through main entry points, totaling 1.22 million visits. Another 175.75 thousand visits were through border entry points.

Based on the mode of transportation, 996.52 thousand foreign tourists entered Indonesia using air transport; 182.32 thousand visits via sea transport; and 40.32 thousand visits by land transport.

In September 2025, the largest number of foreign tourists came from Malaysia (19.5%), followed by Australia (11.7%), Singapore (8.5%), China (8.1%), and Timor Leste (6.2%).

BPS also noted that the average length of stay for foreign tourists in Indonesia during this period was 10.09 nights. This is an increase from September 2024 (yoy), when the duration was only 7.43 nights.

Cumulatively, the number of foreign tourist visits to the country from January-September 2025 reached 11.43 million people. This figure grew by 10.22% (cumulative-to-cumulative/ctc) compared to the same period last year.

This marks the highest achievement since 2020, and is close to the 11.95 million foreign tourist visits recorded from January-September 2019.
