Awan Pintar, an Indonesian cloud security engine company, has released a list of countries that sent the most spam emails to Indonesian users throughout 2024.

"Spam emails are the simplest yet most dangerous cyberattack, with minimal cost. Therefore, this type of attack is always a favorite for cybercriminals worldwide," wrote Awan Pintar in its *Digital Threat Report in Indonesia Semester 2 and 2024 Attack Analysis*.

In 2024, Spain was the country that launched the most spam email attacks against Indonesia, reaching 25.61%.

This was followed by the United States and China, which sent spam emails to Indonesia at 23.24% and 7.28%, respectively.

Indonesia also recorded itself as sending 6.11% of spam emails to its own users. Previously at the bottom of the rankings, Indonesia rose to fifth place in 2024.

"This increase is driven by the potential for spam attacks that utilize local domains, which are exploited and then misused to deceive internet users in Indonesia," wrote Awan Pintar.

Other countries that sent a significant number of spam email attacks to Indonesia include Brazil, Canada, Japan, India, the Netherlands, and Germany, with smaller proportions as shown in the attached graph.

AwanPintar.id collected this data using sensors spread throughout Indonesia. The attacks not only identify the origin but also the type of attack.
