The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia reached 701,930 in February 2023.
This number decreased by 4.62% compared to the previous month (month-on-month/mom), but increased by 567.27% compared to the same period last year (year-on-year/yoy).
"Although (foreign tourist visits) experienced a monthly decline, the revival of the tourism sector is increasingly felt. This is in line with the control of the Covid-19 pandemic and the lifting of the Level I Community Activity Restriction (PPKM) policy throughout the country," said BPS in its report, quoted on Monday (3/4/2023).
As seen in the graph above, the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia has tended to increase monthly over the past year. However, the figures have been quite volatile in the last four months.
According to BPS records, the majority of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in February 2023 used air transport, namely 488,080 visits. This is equivalent to 80.43% of the total number of foreign tourist visits.
Then there were 108,633 foreign tourist visits via sea transport (17.9%), while land transport accounted for 10,140 visits (1.67%).
The majority of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in February 2023 came from Malaysia, namely 127,020 visits (18.1%).
This was followed by tourists from Australia with 84,770 visits (12.08%), Singapore with 75,190 visits (10.71%), Timor Leste with 55,950 visits (7.97%), and India with 36,510 visits (5.2%).
Regarding the average length of stay, foreign tourists leaving Indonesia in February 2023 spent an average of 10.06 days.
ASEAN foreign tourists who came to Indonesia had the shortest average length of stay, namely only 4.96 days, while European foreign tourists had an average length of stay of 19.19 days.
Furthermore, Chinese foreign tourists had an average length of stay of 35.45 days, while Hong Kong foreign tourists had an average length of stay of 3 days.
