Indonesia's COVID-19 Cases Rise Towards the End of 2023

Based on data from the Ministry of Health's (Kemenkes) Emerging Infections website, Covid-19 cases in Indonesia are increasing towards the end of 2023.

Throughout November 2023, there was an increase of approximately 7-40 confirmed Covid-19 cases per day nationally. Then, at the beginning of December 2023, the number rose to around 100 cases per day, as shown in the graph.

"Currently, we are seeing a significant increase (in Covid-19 cases)," said Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, Director General of Disease Prevention and Control at the Ministry of Health, in a press release on Friday (December 8, 2023).

"We urge all members of the public to immediately get vaccinated, completing the full dose and booster shots," Maxi added.

The Ministry of Health also urged the public to anticipate the spread of Covid-19 through the following steps:

* Individuals experiencing coughs/flu should immediately take a Covid-19 test. If the result is positive, self-isolate and access telemedicine.
* Wear a mask when sick with the flu or when in crowds/public places with a high risk of transmission.
* Wash hands with soap and running water.
* Complete vaccination up to the second booster.
* Postpone travel to areas reporting a surge in Covid-19 cases.

"The Ministry of Health strongly recommends that the public complete their Covid-19 vaccination amid the resurgence of Covid-19 cases," said Siti Nadia Tarmizi, Head of the Bureau of Communication and Public Service at the Ministry of Health, in a press release on Monday (December 11, 2023).

"Especially with the Christmas and New Year celebrations causing increased public mobility," Siti added.
