Indonesia's ICT Development Index Score Increased in 2024

A report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that Indonesia's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Development Index score has continued to grow in recent years.

BPS compiles the ICT development index using a methodology released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The assessment refers to three sub-indices: ICT access and infrastructure; ICT use; and ICT skills.

This index represents the development of national ICT on a scale of 0-10 points. The higher the index value, the better the assumed condition.

In 2024, Indonesia's ICT development score reached 6.02 points, marking the highest achievement in the last 7 years. This value increased by 0.12 points from the 2023 ICT score of 5.90 points.

The increase in the index score was supported by improvements across all sub-indices. Notably, the access and infrastructure sub-index scored 5.91 points in 2024, an increase of 0.10 points compared to the previous year.

Furthermore, the ICT use score also rose by 0.19 points to 6.10 points, and the ICT skills score increased by 0.04 points to 6.08 points.

Although the national ICT development index score continues to rise, BPS considers the score still moderate, as it has only reached around 6 out of a 10-point scale.

"To achieve more balanced and sustainable ICT development, consistent policies are needed to expand infrastructure while simultaneously strengthening human resource capacity," BPS wrote in its report Information and Communication Technology Development Index 2024.
