Global Internet Data Consumption

Global internet data consumption reached 1.37 billion MB in 2018. This figure represents an 181 percent increase compared to 2014.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) predicts that global data consumption will continue to rise. By 2023, data consumption is projected to reach 4.4 billion MB.

This increase is driven by network expansion, the availability of smartphones, and affordable internet packages. The increasing demand for video, which inherently consumes large amounts of data, will also be a significant factor. 2018 data indicates that 81 percent of consumers used their internet access for video consumption.

The spread of 3G and 4G networks offers cheaper internet service alternatives. This is further enhanced by the official launch of 5G technology. This is capable of fundamentally transforming internet consumption with its high data transfer rates and low latency.
