Jakarta, Indonesia's Fastest Internet City

In 2015, Jakarta was the area with the fastest internet speed in Indonesia. The average internet speed in Jakarta reached 7 megabytes per second (Mbps). This indicates that Jakarta was ready to become a city with international standards in terms of internet speed. In fact, the maximum speed achievable in Jakarta reached 91.9 Mbps.

However, internet speed in Indonesia is not yet evenly distributed. Some areas are still not covered by telecommunications or data signals. Therefore, there is still an internet speed gap between regions, especially between Java and outside Java. This is further emphasized by the eastern part of Indonesia, such as Maluku and Papua, which only enjoy internet speeds of 0.4 Mbps.

According to the annual report of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), the average internet speed in Indonesia is 4.5 Mbps. This figure is still far behind other countries in the world. In this category, South Korea still has the highest speed, reaching 29 Mbps.
