In 2016, approximately 62 percent of teenagers accessed the internet from home.

Over the past five years, there has been a significant shift in how urban teenagers in Indonesia access the internet. In 2011, approximately 56 percent of teenagers aged 15-19 accessed the internet from internet cafes. However, by 2016, they primarily accessed the internet from home, mostly using mobile devices from morning until just before bedtime. Peak internet usage occurred between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

Currently, the most prevalent online activities among teenagers are interacting with social media, browsing the internet, playing games, downloading applications/movies, and listening to music.

These findings are from a Nielsen Consumer & Media View (CMV) survey conducted in the second quarter of 2016, with over 17,000 respondents across 11 Indonesian cities (Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Surakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Medan, Palembang, Makassar, and Banjarmasin).
