The Number of Fintech Unicorns Reaches 206 by Q3 2021: Where Are Most of Them Located?

CB Insights recorded 206 unicorns, or startups with valuations exceeding US$1 billion, in the fintech sector by Q3 2021. Meanwhile, 119 new unicorns emerged this year.

The United States has the highest number of fintech unicorns globally, with 107, representing 51.94% of the total worldwide fintech unicorns.

Asia has a total of 41 fintech unicorns, or 19.9% of the global total. Europe recorded 36 fintech unicorns, accounting for 17.48% of the total.

CB Insights noted that US$31.1 billion was spent on fintech startup funding in Q3 2021. This figure is lower than the previous quarter but soared by 147% compared to Q2 2021.

Startups in the United States received US$14.6 billion in funding, Asia US$5.9 billion, Europe US$5.5 billion, Latin America US$2.6 billion, Canada US$0.9 billion, and other regions US$1.5 billion.
