Facebook's Monthly Active Users Slightly Decline in Q2 2022

Facebook experienced a slight decline in monthly active users (MAUs). Citing a Meta Inc. report, Facebook's monthly active users totaled 2.93 billion in Q2 2022, a slight decrease of 0.06% from Q1 2022.

Meta reported that this decline was due to intense competition from popular applications such as TikTok. The decrease in usage was also attributed to restrictions in Russia, which had 70 million users.

Regionally, the decline in Facebook's monthly active users occurred in Europe, falling from 418 million users in Q1 2022 to 407 million users in Q2 2022. (Note: The original text contains a typo; it should read 407 million, not billion).

Meanwhile, monthly active users in the Asia-Pacific region were the highest globally, reaching 1.3 billion users during April-June 2022, up from 1.29 billion users in January-March.

The number of monthly active users in the United States and Canada also increased to 264 million in Q2 of this year from 263 million in the previous quarter.

The decline in Facebook's monthly active users in Q2 2022 also affected the company's net income. Facebook's net income from April to June 2022 was recorded at US$6.68 billion.

This net income was down 10.4% from Q1 2022, which reached US$7.46 billion. It was also the lowest since Q3 2020.
