The number of paying customers or premium subscribers to the music streaming application, Spotify, has continued to increase.
Citing the company's financial report, the number of Spotify premium subscribers reached 188 million in the second quarter of 2022.
This figure is up 3.3% from the first quarter of 2022 (quarter-on-quarter/qoq). Compared to the first quarter of 2021 (year-on-year/yoy), Spotify premium subscribers grew by 13.9%.
By region, Europe leads with 39% of Spotify's premium subscribers. North America follows with 29%.
Latin America accounts for 21% of Spotify's premium subscribers, and the remaining 12% are from other parts of the world.
Not only are premium subscribers increasing, but Spotify's monthly active users also grew by 19% year-on-year (yoy) to 433 million by the second half of this year.
Meanwhile, the number of ad-supported Spotify monthly active users was recorded at 256 million in the second quarter of 2022, a 22% (yoy) increase.
With these achievements, Spotify recorded revenue of €2.86 billion, a 23% (yoy) increase in the second quarter of 2022. This breaks down to €2.5 billion in premium revenue and €360 million in ad-supported revenue.
