Promotions are a major draw for Indonesians shopping online on marketplaces or e-commerce platforms. A JakPat survey found that 8 out of 10, or 82%, of e-commerce consumers chose free shipping as their favorite promotion.

This percentage surpasses discounts, which were chosen by 76% of consumers. Cashback came in third as the favorite promotion with 71%. JakPat attributes the increasing use of digital wallets to the appeal of this promotion.

Next, flash sales were chosen by 59% of respondents, and vouchers by 52%.

Exclusive brand promotions and discounted bundles were each chosen by only 24% of respondents. Meanwhile, in-app games and lucky draws were chosen by 13% of consumers.

This survey was conducted by JakPat among 1,420 respondents in Indonesia who made online purchases during the first half of 2022.

50% of respondents were from the Millennial age group, 36% from Gen Z, and 15% from Gen X. 41% of respondents were from outside Java, 35% from Java, and 24% from Jakarta and surrounding areas.

The sample was selected using probability sampling, with a margin of error below 3%.
