Indonesia's national football team (timnas) coach, Shin Tae-yong, has called up 28 players to prepare for the U-23 Asian Cup in Qatar, scheduled for April 15th to May 3rd, 2024.
Previously, PSSI (the Indonesian Football Association) suspended the 2023/2024 Liga 1 competition during the U-23 Asian Cup, as the players will be competing in the tournament.
"With the support (from PSSI) in halting Liga 1, the Chairman (Erick Thohir) has instructed us to achieve better results in this U-23 Asian Cup," said Shin Tae-yong, as reported by the PSSI website on Monday, April 1st, 2024.
Persija Jakarta is the club that has contributed the most players to the Indonesian U-23 national team this year, with 5 players.
Next is Borneo FC with 4 players, followed by PSIS with 3 players.
In addition to local clubs, Shin Tae-yong also called up 6 players from overseas clubs to represent Indonesia in the 2024 Qatar U-23 Asian Cup.
