Generation Z Most Worried About Personal Data Security on the Internet

A survey by the Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) shows that the 17-25 age group, or Generation Z, is most concerned about the security of their personal data online. 78.4% of Generation Z respondents stated that their personal data is not safe on the internet.

Among the 26-40 age group, or millennials, 72.7% of respondents stated that their personal data is not safe online. Conversely, 27.3% of respondents from this age group stated that their personal data is safe online.

The number of respondents concerned about the security of their personal data online decreases in the 41-55 age group, or Generation X. Only 67.4% of respondents from this generation felt their personal data was unsafe online. The remaining 32.6% of respondents felt their personal data was safe online.

Similar to Generation X, only 67.6% of respondents in the 56-59 age group, or baby boomers, felt their personal data was unsafe online. The remaining 32.4% of respondents felt their personal data was safe online.

Komnas HAM conducted a survey of 1,200 respondents from the fourth week of July to the second week of August 2020. Sampling was conducted using a multistage random sampling method with a margin of error of 2.8%.
