Where Does the Global Community Consume Local News?

The majority of the global population consumes local news from local newspapers and their websites. A Reuters Institute report indicates that 44% of global respondents stated this.

Local television and its websites follow, with 33% of respondents using them to obtain local news. Then, 31% of respondents seek local news from local groups on social media.

28% of respondents look for local news through personal communication. 24% of respondents get such news from local radio and its websites. Meanwhile, 13% of respondents seek local news from politicians, police, churches, and other sources.

The Reuters Institute report is based on an online survey conducted jointly with YouGov in January-February 2020. The survey was conducted in 40 countries, each with 1,000-4,000 respondents.
