Google, a global technology giant, has been actively involved in acquisitions since 2001. According to data from *CB Insights*, Google has made at least eight acquisitions with transaction values exceeding US$1 billion. So, which acquisition had the highest value?
The acquisition of Motorola Mobility was Google's largest, costing US$12.5 billion in 2011.
Unfortunately, this acquisition was not successful. In 2014, Google sold Motorola to Lenovo for US$3 billion, significantly less than its acquisition cost. The failure of Motorola to compete with Samsung as an Android phone manufacturer was one of the reasons for this sale.
The second-largest acquisition was Nest Labs, valued at US$3.2 billion. Nest Labs is a smart home device manufacturer, and Google Nest is the result of this acquisition.
Next, in third place, the acquisition of DoubleClick cost US$3.1 billion. DoubleClick was then integrated with Google's advertising program, AdSense.
Google also acquired the big data company Looker for US$2.6 billion, Fitbit for US$2.1 billion, and the video site YouTube for US$1.7 billion.
