Kominfo's KIC Survey: The Number of People Who Consider Hoax News a Minor Issue is Increasing
- A Small
- A Medium
- A Bigger
The spread of information is increasingly easy in today's rapidly developing digital era. However, digital technology is often misused by irresponsible parties to spread false news, or hoaxes.
This has naturally caused considerable public unrest. Katadata Insight Center (KIC), together with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo), conducted a survey on respondents' views regarding hoax news.
The survey results recorded that in 2021, 45.4% of respondents recognized that hoax news is a serious problem, slightly less than in 2020, which reached 46.4% of respondents.
Meanwhile, 26.3% of respondents considered the existence of false news to be a moderate problem. This percentage is also lower than the previous year's 27.2% of respondents.
On the other hand, more respondents considered hoax news to be a minor problem. This is evident from the 14.3% of respondents' answers in 2021, while in 2020 it was recorded at 9.2%.
There were even 8.2% of respondents who answered that hoax news did not pose a problem at all last year. This percentage is higher than in 2020, which was 4.8% of respondents.
Respondents who answered "don't know" decreased from 12.4% in 2020 to 5.8% in 2021.
The respondents involved in this survey numbered 10,000 people spread across 34 provinces in Indonesia. The criteria for respondents were household members aged 13-70 years who had accessed the internet in the last 3 months.
