The majority of Yogyakarta residents believe that numerous festivals held in the region are beneficial.
This was recorded in a household survey conducted by the Demography Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (FEB UI) in 2019, titled *Analysis Report on the Impact of Festival Organization in Yogyakarta*.
Of the 15 festivals analyzed, the Cellsbutton Yogyakarta New Media Art Fest was deemed the most beneficial, with 100% of respondents reporting positive impacts.
Next was the Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival, considered beneficial by 73% of local residents. However, 27% of respondents stated that the festival had no impact on their activities.
The Jogja International Kite Festival was deemed beneficial by 64% of respondents, while 36% considered it to have no impact.
Meanwhile, only 20% of respondents considered the Yogyakarta Puppet Festival beneficial. The majority, or 80%, felt it had no impact.
The benefits reported by respondents included entertainment and increased cultural knowledge. The drawbacks included traffic congestion, noise pollution, and security concerns.
Furthermore, the survey found that 91% of respondents expressed interest in attending similar festivals.
The FEB UI Demography Institute survey involved 450 households across five regencies/cities in Yogyakarta. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) in 2019.
