Based on the 2017 Nielsen Advertising Expenditure (Adex), conventional media advertising spending grew by 8% to Rp 145.5 trillion. However, the number of ad spots decreased by 2% year-on-year. The increase in rate cards resulted in continued growth in media advertising spending.
Television advertising spending grew by 12% to Rp 115.8 trillion year-on-year, accounting for approximately 80% of total advertising spending. Newspaper advertising spending, however, decreased by 3% to Rp 28.5 trillion. Similarly, magazine and tabloid advertising spending contracted by 31%, reaching only Rp 1.1 trillion.
The Nielsen Adex 2017 data is derived from Ad Intel, which monitors advertising activity in Indonesia across 15 television stations, 99 newspapers, and 120 magazines and tabloids. The advertising spending figures are based on gross rate cards and do not take into account discounts, bonuses, promotions, package prices, or other factors.
