A Reuters Institute report shows that the majority of Indonesians utilize multiple media sources for news consumption. Over half, or 89%, of respondents use online media, dominated by social media, to obtain the latest information.

Furthermore, 58% of respondents stated they watch television for news updates. Print media ranked last, with only 20% of respondents citing it as a news source.

Meanwhile, various media companies have differing levels of trust based on respondent assessments. CNN was ranked as the most trusted media outlet at 69%, followed by Kompas (67%), TVRI (66%), and Detik.com (64%). Despite this, public trust in news is relatively low at 39%.

People use a variety of devices to access news. Smartphones are the most widely used device (85%), followed by computers (37%), and tablets (10%).

The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, in collaboration with YouGov (and partners), distributed a questionnaire from late January to early February 2021. The organizers collected 2,007 samples from Indonesia.
