Data compiled by *Layoffs.fyi* shows that layoffs of workers in global technology and startup companies are still ongoing this month.
Real-time data as of 2 PM WIB on Thursday, June 13, 2024, indicates that 7,045 employees from 12 global technology and startup companies have been laid off this month. This number has the potential to rise significantly, considering that layoff announcements are still ongoing, including one from ByteDance.
News reported by *Kontan*, citing *Bloomberg*, on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, stated that TikTok's parent company, ByteDance Ltd., plans to cut 450 employees at PT Tokopedia. Tokopedia is currently controlled by ByteDance.
The number of layoffs in mid-June is relatively low compared to the previous full month, which saw 9,955 employees laid off in May 2024 from 47 companies.
Since the beginning of 2024, the highest number of layoffs occurred in January 2024, with 34,107 employees from 122 companies affected.
In 2023, the most massive layoffs occurred in January 2023, affecting 89,709 employees from 277 companies.
In 2022, the most widespread layoffs occurred in November 2022, affecting 53,594 employees from 231 companies.
*Layoffs.fyi* also explains that in 2024, the category of companies with the most layoffs was transportation (18,587 employees), followed by hardware (9,686 employees), and retail (8,780 employees).
