Major cities in every country are usually built with a futuristic concept. The aim is to facilitate the mobility of its people and attract other parties, such as investors.
The American consulting firm Oliver Wyman Forum and the University of California, Berkeley compiled urban mobility readiness scores in their 2022 report, the *Urban Mobility Readiness Index*. This measures the ease of mobility or movement of people in the major cities that were the subject of their research.
In the Asia Pacific region, Singapore holds the top position with a score of 70.2%. However, this score actually decreased.
Singapore is in the global top 5. It currently ranks 4th, below San Francisco, Stockholm, and Helsinki. In 2020, the city ranked first.
"This is due to the impact of the strict Covid-19 lockdowns during 2020-2021, which hampered connectivity, reduced international airport volume, and limited public transportation," wrote the research team.
Second in the Asia Pacific region is Tokyo with a score of 65.7%. Globally, Tokyo ranks 15th.
