According to the Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network (SAFEnet), there were at least 605 cases of online gender-based violence (OGBV) in Indonesia during July-September, or the third quarter of 2025.
Based on reports, the threat of intimate content dissemination was the most frequently reported type of OGBV by victims, with 288 cases.
The complete data can be seen as follows:
- Threat of content dissemination: 288 cases
- Sexual extortion (sextortion): 144 cases
- Non-consensual intimate image (NCII): 78 cases
- Gender-based doxing: 24 cases
- Cyber harassment: 21 cases
- Morphing: 16 cases
- Others: 34 cases.
According to SAFEnet, if calculated from the beginning of the year until the end of Q3 2025, the total number of recorded OGBV cases has reached 1,698.
“This means that, statistically, more than 6 OGBV cases occur every day in Indonesia,” SAFEnet explained in its report.
SAFEnet also estimates that the number of OGBV cases will continue to increase until the end of this year. Moreover, SAFEnet's data is only based on reports and internet monitoring.
“Similar to the enumeration of other violence cases, there is an iceberg phenomenon. The number of reported cases could be fewer than the actual cases,” SAFEnet stated.
