Indonesia's Digital Literacy Levels by Age Group, End of 2024

According to a BBC Media Action survey, digital literacy levels among young people in Indonesia in 2024 were higher than those in older age groups.

BBC explained that the surveyed digital literacy measured respondents' ability to access and navigate digital platforms or the internet.

Below are Indonesia's digital literacy levels at the end of 2024 by age group and level, ordered from highest to lowest:

High

• 16-24 years: 33%
• 25-34 years: 32%
• 35-44 years: 22%
• 45-55 years: 11%
• Over 55 years: 2%

Medium

• 35-44 years: 28%
• 25-34 years: 24%
• 45-55 years: 22%
• 16-24 years: 21%
• Over 55 years: 5%

Low

• 45-55 years: 35%
• Over 55 years: 32%
• 35-44 years: 18%
• 25-34 years: 9%
• 16-24 years: 6%

According to the BBC, there was no significant gender difference in Indonesian society's digital literacy levels.

"In fact, men were slightly more likely to show lower levels of digital literacy than women," stated the BBC in *Indonesia Information Environment* (August 2025).

The BBC conducted this face-to-face survey of 5,036 respondents aged 15 and over in October-November 2024, followed by qualitative research in November-December 2024.
