A survey by the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) reveals various methods Indonesian citizens employ to safeguard their data security while online.

The survey found that 22.75% of respondents use strong, unpredictable passwords. 22.23% exercise caution when using applications requesting personal data, and 18.65% regularly change their passwords. Furthermore, 11.56% only use verified applications, and 3.83% install antivirus software.

Conversely, 20.61% admitted to being unaware of or neglecting data security practices while browsing the internet.

APJII also investigated online security incidents experienced by Indonesians. Online fraud was the most prevalent issue, affecting 22.12% of respondents. Other common incidents included personal data theft or phishing (14.36%), malware infections (10.89%), and account access issues (6.54%).

The survey involved 8,700 respondents aged 13 and above, proportionally distributed across 38 Indonesian provinces. A multistage random sampling technique was used for sample selection.

The survey was conducted from April 10th to July 16th, 2025, using face-to-face interviews, with a margin of error of approximately 1.1%.
