Samsung Leads Global Smartphone Shipments in Q2 2025

According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), global smartphone shipments reached 295.2 million units in the second quarter of 2025, represents a 1% increase year-on-year (YoY).

IDC notes a positive trend in the global smartphone market. However, economic uncertainty could suppress demand, leading consumers to postpone smartphone purchases, particularly in the lower price segments.

"As a result, Android in the low-price segment is experiencing pressure that hinders overall market growth," said Nabila Popal, IDC's Senior Research Director, in her report on Monday, July 14, 2025.

In the second quarter of this year, Samsung held a 19.7% share of the global smartphone market, with shipments increasing by 7.9% (YoY) to 58 million units.

The South Korean manufacturer's growth was driven by sales of new products, namely the Galaxy A36 and A56.

"These new products introduce AI-based features on mid-range devices that have proven effective in retail stores to boost sales, as more consumers are curious about AI," said Francisco Jeronimo, Vice President of Client Devices at IDC.

Apple ranked second, with smartphone shipments growing by 1.5% (YoY) to 46.4 million units. Xiaomi followed, up 0.6% (YoY) to 42.5 million units, and Vivo, which grew by 4.8% (YoY) to 27.1 million units.

Meanwhile, Transsion smartphone shipments fell by 1.7% (YoY) to 25.1 million units, and combined shipments from other brands decreased by 3.1% (YoY) to 96.1 million units.
