Indonesia Becomes the Country Whose Citizens Feel Most Knowledgeable About AI

According to Ipsos, Indonesian citizens rank first in understanding artificial intelligence (AI).

The Ipsos AI Monitor 2024 report shows that 86% of Indonesian respondents acknowledged this.

This percentage is above the global average of 67%. Below Indonesia is Mexico with 80%.

This is followed by Peru (79%), South Africa (76%), and Thailand and Hungary (both 75%).

Ipsos also revealed that regarding knowledge of AI products and services, 80% of Indonesian respondents claimed to understand them, compared to Malaysia (61%) and Germany (41%).

In terms of trust in AI, 66% of Indonesian respondents believe that companies using AI will protect their personal data.

“The optimism among Indonesian citizens towards AI is also clearly evident in the data showing that more than half [68%] of Indonesian citizens believe that AI will not discriminate or show bias towards any group,” Ipsos stated, as quoted from its official website on Friday (May 23, 2025).

Therefore, for Ipsos, this research not only demonstrates the high level of understanding of AI among Indonesian citizens but also their optimism and hope for the potential of artificial intelligence.

“However, concerns about the impact of AI on jobs, privacy, and security also need to be considered. It is important to continue improving education and building an ethical framework to ensure that AI is used responsibly and beneficially for all,” Ipsos stated.

The Ipsos AI Monitor 2024 survey was conducted in 32 countries, involving 23,685 respondents under the age of 75. Specifically in Indonesia, 500 respondents were involved.

The survey was conducted online from April 19 to May 3, 2024. In India, some respondents were also interviewed in person.
