E-commerce users in Indonesia have continued to increase in recent years, and this growth is projected to continue this year.

According to projections by the Ministry of Trade's Data and Information Systems Center (PDSI Kemendag), the number of e-commerce users in Indonesia will reach 73.06 million in 2025.

This projection estimates that the number of e-commerce users in Indonesia in 2025 will grow by 11% year-on-year and increase by 89% compared to 2020.

Despite the high projected user growth, according to Rifan Ardianto, Director of E-commerce at the Ministry of Trade, the Indonesian e-commerce industry still faces various challenges.

These challenges include the limited understanding of digital marketing among MSMEs, and the uneven distribution of logistics and digital payment infrastructure.

"These challenges need to be addressed collaboratively. The industry and regulators must work together to create a healthy and sustainable ecosystem," said Rifan, as reported by Antara (15/3/2025).

Similar sentiments were expressed by Fithra Faisal Hastiadi, an economist from the University of Indonesia.
