Many experts assessed that Indonesia's economic conditions worsened at the beginning of this year.
This is evident from a report by the Institute for Economic and Community Research, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (LPEM FEB UI), titled *LPEM Economic Experts Survey Semester I 2025*.
In February 2025, LPEM surveyed 42 economic experts from various backgrounds, including academics, research institutions, think tanks, the private sector, and multinational organizations.
These respondents represent domestic and international perspectives, coming from West Java, Jakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, East Kalimantan, East Java, Yogyakarta, Central Java, as well as Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
One of the survey's findings is that 23 out of 42 experts (55%) assessed Indonesia's economic conditions at the beginning of 2025 as worse than three months prior.
Furthermore, 7 experts considered the current economic conditions much worse, 11 experts saw no change, and only 1 expert stated that conditions were better.
This is accompanied by widespread pessimism regarding Indonesia's economic growth.
"Expectations for economic growth in the following period appear pessimistic, with most experts (23 out of 42) predicting lower growth than the current figure," according to the LPEM report.
