Global Active iPhones Surpass 1.38 Billion Units in 2023

According to Business of Apps data, the number of active iPhones worldwide reached 1.38 billion units in 2023. This figure represents a 3.6% increase year-on-year (YoY) from 1.33 billion units in the previous year.

For over a decade, the number of global iPhone users has shown consistent positive growth, reaching its highest level last year.

“Although Apple device sales have stagnated in recent years, Apple has added more active iPhone users each year,” wrote Business of Apps in its report on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

In 2023, iPhones generated revenue of US$200.5 billion. This is a 2.38% YoY decrease from US$105.4 billion the previous year.

The first-generation iPhone was first released by Apple CEO Steve Jobs on June 19, 2007. Since then, Apple has continued to introduce its latest iPhone series every year.

Apple launched the iPhone 16 series on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. This series comprises four models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Design-wise, the iPhone 16 features a significant change in the camera layout, with a vertical arrangement for the regular iPhone series. The Pro series, however, retains the diagonal camera arrangement of its predecessors.

Furthermore, the entire latest iPhone series is powered by the new A18 chip to support Apple Intelligence's artificial intelligence system.

Several features have also been improved, including the addition of an action button, a camera control button, a larger display, and a longer-lasting battery.
