Low Demand is the Main Obstacle for E-commerce Businesses

The COVID-19 pandemic shifted people's habits from offline to online due to mobility restrictions. This is especially true for fulfilling daily needs, resulting in the flourishing of e-commerce businesses.

However, e-commerce businesses still face challenges. Lack of demand for goods and services is the primary obstacle, affecting 48.74% of businesses.

Another significant challenge is insufficient capital, impacting 37.51% of e-commerce businesses.

Furthermore, 5.79% experience a shortage of skilled labor, and 3.18% face limitations in shipping services. Despite increasing internet access, 2.87% still encounter internet access problems. Finally, 1.91% of e-commerce businesses face challenges due to fraud in the buying and selling process.

The 2021 e-commerce statistics are based on the 2021 e-commerce survey conducted on a sample of 11,928 businesses across all Indonesian provinces. The 2020 e-commerce survey included businesses that used the internet to receive orders or sell goods and/or services during 2020.

E-commerce is defined as the sale or purchase of goods or services conducted through a computer network using a system specifically designed for receiving or placing orders.
