"Ipar Adalah Maut" Enters the Ranks of Indonesia's Highest-Grossing Films of 2024

"Ipar Adalah Maut" (Brother-in-Law is Death), a film about adultery directed by Hanung Bramantyo, premiered on June 13, 2024. Within two weeks of its release, it ranked fifth among the highest-grossing Indonesian films of 2024.

According to the Film Indonesia website, as of June 24, 2024, the film had been viewed by 2,008,577 viewers.

The film is an adaptation of a TikTok content series by Elizafisa from February 2023, consisting of 24 parts. Due to its viral success, MD Pictures adapted it into a feature film.

The film tells the story of Nisa (Michelle Ziudith), who marries Aris (Deva Mahenra), a young lecturer from her university. Initially, their marriage is perfect, and they are blessed with a daughter named Raya (Alesha Fadillah Kurniawan).

Then, Nisa's mother suddenly entrusts her second daughter, Rani (Davina Karamoy), to live with the couple. This is when Nisa and Aris's marriage falls apart.

Besides its domestic release, "Ipar Adalah Maut" also premiered in neighboring countries – Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam – on June 20, 2024.

Meanwhile, the top-grossing film in Indonesia this year remains "Agak Laen," which has attracted over 9.1 million viewers.

This is followed by the horror film "Vina: Sebelum 7 Hari" with 5.8 million viewers and "Badarawuhi di Desa Penari" with 4.01 million viewers.
